The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) is committed to improved student achievement and well-being through excellence in teaching, service delivery, ongoing learning opportunities for all staff and the delivery of a range of support services to schools, departments and DSBN administrative centres. The DSBN strives to provide an environment where employees are encouraged to perform the duties of their positions at the highest level achievable. Regular and cyclical performance appraisals for all employees support this commitment.

 

Director of Education Performance Appraisal

 

Ontario Regulation 83/24 – Director of Education Performance Appraisal came into effect on March 5, 2024 (the “DPA Regulation”). The DPA Regulation aims to ensure consistent and transparent performance evaluations for Directors of Education for all school boards. 

 

The Director of Education appraisal process is a framework established in accordance with the DPA Regulation ensuring accountability and excellence in educational leadership. The Director of Education appraisal process commences each appraisal year, with the appointment of a committee, comprising of no more than five (5) board members to develop and finalize the performance appraisal plan by June 30.

 

Key steps in the new Director of Education performance appraisal process are outlined below (all dates listed below meet or are in advance of the dates required in the DPA Regulation):

By following the structured timeline and criteria as outlined in the DPA Regulation, the Board of Trustees can effectively assess and enhance educational leadership to benefit the school community at large. 

 

Performance development and appraisal has a positive effect on student achievement and staff effectiveness, assists in the identification of professional learning and training needs, and supports a positive workplace climate. Employee performance appraisal is a key factor in supporting DSBN’s strategic plan.
